Chestermere Waterfront homes .

In Chestermere waterfront homes can be on a pond, a canal or Chestermere Lake.

It really depends on whether you want to use a motor boat regularly or if you just want to enjoy looking over the water.  The ponds and canals do not allow boating or swimming as they are storm water retention ponds.  There are public beaches in Chestermere where you can access the lake for swimming, kayaking.  There is also  a public boat launch on the North-West side of the lake.  There are ponds in West Creek, Kinniburgh, Waterford, Dawson’s Landing, Chelsea and South Shore.

We have a saying “if you can’t dock your boat it is not lakefront!”

Not all realtors share this opinion, so you may find homes on this list that they have classified as waterfront. Yes technically they may be on water, but they are not lakefront.

It makes a real difference in the amount of use you get out of your boat, whether you are on lakefront or not. If you are lakefront you drop your boat, and take off. If you are not you have to go to the public launch, wait in line to launch, go park your vehicle and then you take off under the bridge to enjoy your boat. Then when you are done you have to wait in line to take your boat out, get your vehicle and then pull it out.  Lakefront homes will have an East Chestermere, West Chestermere or Cove Road address.

Not all Chestermere waterfront locations are equal…

  • The water depth may not accommodate  your boat.
  • Some lots have natural sand, some have mud.
  • Noise from the Highway can travel over water.

  • There is a speed limit on the North end of the lake (The Cove) so you need to be able to get your boat under the bridge.

As lakefront residents for 30 years, and active water-sports enthusiasts we can help you find the location that works best for you…We know the Chestermere waterfront market as Doug and Marjorie have sold over 100 lakefront homes, and many homes on the ponds and canals in Chestermere.

Chestermere Lake is a balancing reservoir for the Western Irrigation district.  Water changes over every 5 to 7 days.  The water is dropped for the winter months, from Thanksgiving to May 1st.  This protects the irrigation system and docks and boathouses on the lake.

From about May 1 to Thanksgiving we can give you a boat tour of the lake.  It makes a difference to see it from the lake.  Call us to set up a time to meet.   We would love to help you find your home on the lake.

Chestermere Lake Was Our Dream. If it is yours we would like to help!

Doug grew up waterskiing at Grand Beach and West Hawk Lake in Manitoba.  He moved to the Calgary area for better employment opportunities and was disappointed that there was not the lake access he was accustomed to in Manitoba. One day he was invited to a party at Chestermere Lake and knew then that he would eventually live at Chestermere.

Marjorie McKay grew up on a farm near Hanna Alberta.  She got to go to the lake at least once a summer.  She first moved to Red Deer and got to go to Sylvan Lake often.  After business college, better opportunities beckoned in Calgary.  She missed being near the lake.  One day she was visiting friends in Abbydale and they rode their bikes to Chestermere Lake.  There it was, a beautiful lake that you could live on and it was so close to Calgary.  She knew that someday she would live here.

Fast forward to 1991, Doug, Marjorie, and their two children Kevin and Rayna moved to their current home at Chestermere Lake.  They could not stop talking about how great it was to be in Chestermere.   In 1992 Marjorie became a licensed real estate agent, and she was so busy that Doug got his real estate license in 1993.

Kevin McKay  joined the team in 2017 and works full-time as a real estate agent, and he also has his Drone Pilot License.
